Hear Us Out
We don’t know what else to say—they may be funny guys, and they may not even always be good guys, but we can’t get these characters out of our heads! Call us crazy, but some characters have just a little too much charm to stay strictly off-limits. We know you understand us, too, and that’s why we’re here to break down which 20 characters we all wish would throw a bone our way.

1. Goro Majima From Like A Dragon
Goro Majima may be occasionally terrifying, but he’s also one of the most entertaining characters in the series. It doesn’t take long to notice his loyalty, humor, and surprising emotional depth beneath all the wild behavior. He wouldn’t be a normal romance option, but he would absolutely be an unforgettable one.
2. Albert Wesker From Resident Evil
Albert Wesker has been a Resident Evil icon for decades, and it’s not just because of those shades. Underneath that awesome leather jacket, he’s got stone-cold confidence. He also carries himself like he already knows he’s the most interesting person in the room. Cue our very questionable thoughts.
3. Dante From Devil May Cry
Dante has the exact mix of swagger, humor, and combat skill that makes every one of us wonder why no romance route exists. Across the Devil May Cry games, he fights demons with style while still finding time for jokes, pizza, and dramatic entrances. Let us romance him, you corwards!

4. Bayonetta From Bayonetta
Bayonetta doesn’t need anyone’s approval, and that’s a good thing, too, since she didn’t even really get it. However, those ruffled feathers are part of why she’s such a magnetic character. Players don’t need her to be softened into a traditional love interest, but being able to romance her would’ve been entertaining.

5. Leon S. Kennedy From Resident Evil
Congratulations, Leon—you’re the only guy in the world who can pull off that haircut outside of the ‘90s. We don’t know what we love more: the one-liners or his biceps. His mix of bravery, awkward charm, and action-hero dedication doesn’t hurt either. There are dozens of reasons why he’s one of gaming’s easiest crushes.
6. Ada Wong From Resident Evil
Ada Wong is mysterious enough to frustrate everyone around her, but what’s life without a femme fatale? For some reason, the games rarely let us explore anything beyond glances, rescues, and unfinished conversations. We know that a romance with Ada would probably come with betrayals, but that’s between her and us.

7. Lady Dimitrescu From Resident Evil Village
Hey, hey, hey. There’s a reason Lady Dimitrescu is at the heart of so much fanfiction. She has elegance, intimidation, and screen presence before she first chased Ethan Winters through her castle. Okay, sure, the game presents her as a terrifying aristocratic villain, but that’s what we love about her.

8. Kazuma Kiryu From Like A Dragon
Kazuma Kiryu is practically built to be admired, and yet the series just dangles him in our face. The games let him care deeply about family, friends, and even strangers, but they rarely let romance become a lasting part of his life. A real romance could’ve shown a softer side without taking away the dignity that makes him work.
9. Jaheira From Baldur’s Gate 3
What? You ignore Jaheira just because she’s a mature and slightly terrifying woman? Well, not us! She’s not just another companion with good banter, either; she’s a part of the game’s history. A romance with her could’ve offered something mature and full of humor, especially for those of us who already respected her.
10. Nick Valentine From Fallout 4
Nick Valentine is one of Fallout 4’s best companions. He’s thoughtful, witty, and written with more heart than many humans in the wasteland. So, what gives? We should be able to romance him. Who cares that he looks like that? The game lets you build strong trust with him, anyway, and yet plenty of us can’t extend that bond further.
11. Urbosa From The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
Urbosa has such a commanding presence in Breath of the Wild that she makes an immediate impression…even though her story is basically told through memory. Either way, as the Gerudo Champion, she’s powerful, graceful, protective, and deeply loyal to Princess Zelda. We know that the game isn’t built for romance, but we would’ve gladly spent more time getting to know her.
12. Rolan From Baldur’s Gate 3
We know we just talked about BG3, but we can’t help it! Fans know exactly how many missed opportunities there are, especially with Rolan. He’s sassy, he’s talented, and a romance route could’ve leaned into that prickly charm without sanding him down. Yet, there he sits in his tower, totally out of reach.
13. Arthur Morgan From Red Dead Redemption 2
Though you play as Arthur Morgan, we still have to mention the crippling loneliness. Mary is off the table. Romancing Sadie would’ve been downright weird. And while we’re not chasing every lady of the evening in bars, you can’t even sneak off with them! The only person who actually kisses him is Charles—and it’s not even Smith, so the shippers can’t win, either.
14. Morrigan Aensland From Darkstalkers
Morrigan Aensland has always had a playful energy that makes her stand apart from other characters. That’s why we love her so much. Darkstalkers gives her confidence and supernatural flair, but there’s no real player-driven romance to explore behind the attitude, and we’re still upset.
15. Balthier From Final Fantasy XII
Balthier walks into Final Fantasy XII like the leading man, and to be fair, he often is. But beneath that bravado is confidence and dry humor, both of which give him a relaxed charm that stands out in a heavy story. A romance option would’ve been welcome, but we’ll have to settle for what the series gave us.
16. Cassandra Pentaghast From Dragon Age: Inquisition
While you can technically romance Cassandra, the dream only happens if you play as a man—and that’s nonsense. Letting more players pursue her would’ve made sense; Cassandra’s mix of discipline and humor is one of the game’s strongest companion arcs. But if you’re a lady, you just need to admire from afar.

17. Takemura From Cyberpunk 2077
Goro spends a lot of time being hilariously out of place in Night City, but that never scared us away. His texts and deadpan comments give him enough personality to carry a full romance arc, and the fact that V can build real trust with him but never take it further left plenty of us robbed.
18. Blaidd From Elden Ring
Blaidd is everything our tragic hearts yearn for: loyal and surprisingly gentle beneath his intimidating design. Sure enough, that sad arc is the very reason he remains out of reach, though we can dream. Sorry, the game already gives us plenty of strange choices, so romancing Blaidd wouldn’t have been the weirdest thing in the Lands Between.
19. Sae Niijima From Persona 5
Sae Niijima has the sharp presence that makes her stand out immediately, even before her story kicks into high gear. We know we’re not the only ones who’ve wondered why Sae was kept off the romance list despite having so much screen time. We admit, a romance would’ve needed careful writing, but she’s still one of the franchise’s biggest “why not?” picks.

20. Sephiroth From Final Fantasy VII
Sephiroth is too dangerous to make a sensible romance choice, but fictional crushes don’t need to be practical. He’s presented as elegant and unforgettable, with a presence that changed how many viewed video game villains. And honestly, that was enough for us.
