They’ve snapped and seriously overstepped, and we’re not talking minor missteps, but global fallout and unheroic meltdowns. Before you shout “Avengers Assemble,” maybe check the receipts. Here are 20 moments that prove hero status doesn’t always come with a morality clause.
1. Nick Fury Stole The Avengers’ DNA

3. Iron Man Thought Ultron Was A Good Idea
In Age of Ultron (2015), Iron Man feared another alien attack and took matters into his own hands. He secretly created Ultron, hoping to protect the world. Instead, the AI turned hostile. His good intentions collapsed along with an entire city.
4. Spider-Man Revealed His Identity
Tell the world your biggest secret just to impress your boss—Peter Parker did. At Iron Man’s urging, he unmasked during Civil War and immediately painted a target on Aunt May. To fix it, he made a deal with Mephisto that erased his marriage.
5. Captain America Took Over America—Literally
Any player recalls when Captain America whispered, “Hail Hydra.” That 2017 Secret Empire plot twist came courtesy of Red Skull rewriting Steve’s memories using the Cosmic Cube. Suddenly, Cap was leading Hydra and betraying everyone.
6. Wolverine Killed Because Charles Said So
Even Wolverine has lines he doesn’t like crossing. But under orders from Professor X, he elimnated a child during a mission. No claws can slice through the guilt that followed. This violent task broke something in him.

7. Wanda Went Full Slasher In The Multiverse
Wanda Maximoff broke both hearts and necks. In Multiverse of Madness, she massacred Mr. Fantastic, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, and Professor X just to get to America Chavez. Her grief was real, but her methods were pure horror film.
8. Hulk Got Launched Into Space By His Friends
Sending someone to space without asking is extreme. But that’s precisely what the Illuminati did to Hulk, with the intention to avoid more damage on Earth. He became a king on another planet, then came back with a vengeance.

9. Hank Pym Hit The Wasp
Hank Pym’s worst moment didn’t involve a villain. During his unstable Yellowjacket phase, he struck Janet Van Dyne in a fight. Later, he built a robot to fake an attack on the Avengers and save the day himself. It failed, and so did his legacy as a hero.

10. Cyclops Killed Professor X
Possessed by the Phoenix Force during Avengers vs. X-Men, Cyclops killed his mentor in one devastating blast. “I didn’t mean to,” doesn’t undo the fracture it caused in the mutant community. Some lines—even cosmic ones—should never be crossed.

11. Nick Fury’s Secret War
Nick Fury once wiped heroes’ memories after dragging them into a war. In Secret War, he launched a covert mission in Latveria using heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil—without consent. The aftermath got him fired and exposed his methods.

12. Doctor Strange Tampered With Reality
In No Way Home, Strange’s identity-erasing spell affected reality and invited multiversal chaos. Villains spilled in, time bent on itself, and Peter Parker paid the price. Hubris, not magic, is the issue. A smarter Sorcerer Supreme might’ve used a sticky note instead.
13. The Avengers Fought Each Other In Civil War
One minute they’re saving the planet, the next they’re throwing punches at an airport. The “Civil War” arc tore the Avengers in half after a tragic explosion in Stamford. Goliath died, and trust collapsed. Turns out, the greatest threat to the Avengers was the Avengers.

17. Hulk’s Rampage In New York
Revenge doesn't always come with a seatbelt. After being exiled, Hulk returned to Earth furious, and World War Hulk began. He tore through New York City, leveling buildings and shaking the skyline. Civilians died, and heroes barely survived.

18. Jean Grey Destroyed A Planet As Dark Phoenix
Jean Grey, consumed by the Dark Phoenix, devoured a star and obliterated the D’Bari system. The X-Men couldn’t stop her. In the end, Jean preferred death over destruction, but the damage was cosmic and irreversible. A hero's heartbreak, multiplied by a billion voices silenced.
19. Scarlet Witch Depowered Most Mutants
“No more mutants” were the only words needed to have ninety percent gone. In House of M, Wanda Maximoff wiped out mutant powers across the globe in a grief-fueled breakdown. Known as M-Day, the event left mutants devastated and endangered.
20. Sabra Killed Innocents During Missions
