10 Harry Potter Spells We'd Use On The Daily & 10 Useless Ones
Which Spell Would You Be Using On Repeat?
Magic isn't just for wizards battling dark forces. Many spells in the Harry Potter universe have practical applications that would make life in the Muggle world easier. Others, however, are so niche and impractical, we can see no use for them outside of entertainment or drama. From charms that summon your keys to spells that are more trouble than they're worth, here are 10 Harry Potter spells we'd use every day and 10 that are completely useless.
1. Accio
Accio is the summoning charm. Any time you lose something somewhere in the house or just don't feel like getting up to fetch it, it would come in handy. We'd be using it several times a day.
2. Alohamora
Alohamora is the unlocking charm Hermione uses in the first book when she, Harry, and Ron need to get past a locked door on the forbidden third floor. We'd use it out of laziness instead of rummaging around for our keys.
3. Lumos
Lumos is the light spell. Considering how often we reach for our phone's flashlight at night, we'd probably use this on the daily. The task is arguably already filled by the phone flashlight, but a wand light is much cooler.
4. Nox
Just as useful as the light spell is the one who turns out the light. Nox is the extinguishing charm. Without it, our wands would be perpetually lit.
5. Reparo
Especially if you're an accident-prone person, reparo, the repairing charm, would be particularly useful. Mend broken cups, glasses, or even torn clothes with it in an instant.
6. Muffliato
No longer would you need to wear earplugs if you were a witch or wizard. Muffliato is the muffling charm. Use it to block out noisy neighbors or block out eavesdroppers.

7. Wingardium Leviosa
One of the first and most memorable charms Harry and his friends learns is Wingardium Leviosa, the levitation charm. It would make our hauling groceries, luggage, or laundry a lot more effortless.
8. Scourgify
Scourgify is the cleaning charm in the Harry Potter universe. Use it on dishes, countertops, or to scrub away dirt, grime, and spills for an effortless clean.
9. Aguamenti
Aguamenti is the water-conjuring spell. It produces a jet of fresh, drinkable water from the tip of your wand. It's perfect for staying hydrated throughout the day.
10. Colloportus
Colloportus is the locking spell. Just as Alohamora is useful for unlocking doors, Colloportus would be useful for sealing them when you don't feel like fetching your keys.
Now that we've covered some of the most useful spells in the Harry Potter universe, let's talk about the least applicable ones.
1. Densaugeo
Densaugeo is the spell that makes teeth grow rapidly. Draco used it on Hermione in the Goblet of Fire. Outside of schoolyard bullying, we can see no practical use for this hex.
2. Glisseo
Glisseo is a spell that turns staircases into slides. Aside from being a fun, playful, and whimsical charm, it's not practically useful and is very particular.
3. Orchideous
Orchideous is a charm that makes a bouquet of flowers appear instantly out of the tip of your wand. Outside of showing off and wooing a lover who probably wouldn't be impressed anyway because they've seen it a thousand times, there really isn't much use for this one.

4. Flagrate
Flagrate is a spell that creates fiery writing in the air so you can write a temporary message. While visually impressive, this charm is all style and no substance, with little practical use.
5. Serpensortia
Serpensortia makes snakes come out of your wand. It's used in duels or for intimidation, but unless you have a rat problem in your home, it's probably not going to come in handy too often.
6. Brackium Emendo
Brackium Emendo was the charm Gilderoy Lockhart famously used to try to mend Harry's broken arm after a bewitched bludger flew into it during a Quidditch match. It's meant to heal bones, but when used incorrectly, it makes the bones vanish instead. Having it possibly backfire and debone someone renders the charm more dangerous than useful.

7. Morsmordre
Morsmordre is the spell Death Eaters use to fire that glowing, ominous skull being circled by a snake. It's no doubt a cool trick, but there isn't much use for it other than instilling fear.
8. Slugulus Eructo
Slugulus Eructo is the slug vomiting charm that backfired on Ron in the third book after he tried to use it against Draco. Seeing Ron's horrible reaction to it, this isn't a spell we'd use too often, even on our enemies.

9. Cartwheeling Eggcups
The Cartwheeling Eggcups hex is one of the first spells Harry is asked to perform during his Charms OWL. It's so niche and particular, we can't see it being useful outside of a random exam question.
10. Teapot to Tortoise
Teapot to tortoise is another charm the kids are asked to perform on their exam. It literally turns a teapot into a tortoise and does nothing else, which doesn't seem useful at all. How often are you in need of a tortoise more than a teapot?
