10 Harry Potter Characters In The Wrong House & 10 Who Were Perfectly Sorted
Perfectly Placed Or Completely Misplaced?
Hogwarts houses are meant to reflect a student’s core traits, but not every witch or wizard fits neatly into their assigned category. While some characters like Sirius Black and Draco Malfoy seem perfectly placed, others like Lockhart and Peter Pettigrew have us questioning what that old hat could've possibly been thinking. Here are 10 Harry Potter characters who might have been better off in a different house and 10 who were sorted perfectly.
1. Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger was no doubt brave, but her main trait is her intelligence and studiousness, making her perfectly suited to Ravenclaw, not Gryffindor. The sorting hat even struggled with the decision of not putting her in Ravenclaw.
2. Harry Potter
Any Harry Potter fan knows that Harry himself was destined for Slytherin because of his similarities with Tom Riddle. The sorting hat placed him in Gryffindor because Harry asked for anything but Slytherin.

3. Luna Lovegood
Despite having some core Ravenclaw traits, we'd still argue that Luna Lovegood should've been placed into Gryffindor. She proved her bravery and boldness time and again, standing up to bullies and fighting for Dumbledore's Army.

4. Hagrid
Despite being a natural fit for Hufflepuff, Rubeus Hagrid was placed in Gryffindor. Sure, he's courageous and bold, but his fierce loyalty, kindness, and gentle nature are core Hufflepuff values.

5. Peter Pettigrew
Despite his conniving nature, Peter Pettigrew was placed into Gryffindor house instead of where he belonged, Slytherin. The sorting hat took over five minutes to sort him, but in the end, it seems even it was tricked by sneaky and dishonest Pettigrew.
6. Cedric Diggory
Cedric Diggory is one of the most iconic Hufflepuffs known for his work ethic and humility, but we would argue he really should've been a Gryffindor. He was exceptionally brave, chivalrous, and a natural leader, all core Gryffindor traits.
7. Ron Weasley
Despite every Weasley being placed in Gryffindor, we think Ron Weasley and Cedric Diggory should've swapped houses. He's not the most courageous, ,and his most core value is almost certainly loyalty above all else.
8. Gilderoy Lockhart
It may shock you to find out Gilderoy Lockhart was a Ravenclaw,, given his lack of intellect. His vanity, ambition, and tendency to manipulate others align much better with Slytherin.
9. Crabbe & Goyle
Although Crabbe and Goyle aren't particularly nice guys, they always seemed a little out of place in Slyther,in ,given their lack of cunning, ambition, or leadership. Their loyalty to Draco makes them feel better suited to Hufflepuff.
10. Remus Lupin
As a core member of the Order of the Phoenix, Remus Lupin is no doubtas as brave as a Gryffindor should be. However, his rationality, intelligence, and studiousness make him arguably more of a Ravenclaw.

James Potter is even more of a quintessential Gryffindor than his son, Harry. He was a fearless, daring, confident, and bold natural leader with a strong moral compass.
