For a long time, PC players had all the fun when it came to modding Baldur's Gate 3. Well, if we’re being honest, for a long time, PC players had all the fun when it came to any video game. But in this beloved RPG, those lucky ducks could expand their parties, experiment with new spells, and completely overhaul their characters; console players had to settle for the original experience.
But not anymore. Larian Studios introduced official console mod support with Patch 7, making it possible to download approved modifications directly through the game's built-in Mod Manager. Not everything available on PC makes the cut, which is a shame, but there's still plenty worth installing. If you’re looking for a totally new experience on your second or twenty-second playthrough, we’re here to break down the best add-ons.
Mods That Make Combat and Exploration More Exciting
PixellBytes' Adjustable Party Limit is easily one of the most appealing mods for anyone tired of leaving companions behind at camp. Instead of traveling with just four characters, you can expand your active party to include up to 16. Okay, yes, that’s obviously a little insane, but so is leaving poor Gale to fend over the cook pot while you’re gallivanting in dungeons.
Anyone frustrated by the game's level 12 cap should also consider UnlockLevelCurve - Level 13-20. This mod extends character progression all the way to level 20, introducing a different experience curve and allowing further advancement. It's most enticing if you've already completed several campaigns and want more opportunities to develop your favorite builds.
Spellcasters have another excellent option with Mystra's Spells, which introduces 135 additional spells. Don’t worry—this one doesn’t give you cheap game-breaking spells that make things too easy. They also don’t feel like cheating, either, since these are available canonically in D&D. It really just expands the game and lets you see just how much you were missing out on in the original!
If you're looking for tougher adventures, Extra Encounters and Minibosses adds more enemies throughout the existing campaign. The mod introduces additional combat situations and challenging opponents, making familiar locations less predictable during repeat playthroughs. Players who've memorized nearly every encounter will appreciate having new threats to consider. It's especially appealing when you're already using modifications that make your party considerably stronger.
Character Customization
For a game with so many options and dialogue trees, you’d think we’d have more to choose from in the customization window. But we don’t. Luckily, HairUnlocked gives players even more choices, making 30 additional hairstyles available, including options associated with companions and other characters. Most of these styles work across multiple playable races, providing greater flexibility when designing your Tav. (As if we needed to spend more time making our character!)
For those who want a more extensive selection of hairstyles, Tav's Hair Salon is another worthwhile addition. Its collection focuses particularly on elves, drow, half-elves, tieflings, and humans, although certain styles support other races. Just be careful; some hairstyles have limitations involving body types or highlights, so checking their compatibility is a must before you dive in.
Changing your character's clothing colors is also a lot more fun with FaerunColors. This one introduces more than 120 additional dyes inspired by the gods and notable figures of Faerûn. Unlike ordinary dyes that disappear after use, these custom colors can be applied repeatedly, so it's perfect for coordinating your entire party's equipment without constantly searching for merchants.
Then again, you could always just get All Camp Clothes and Dyes, which makes existing camp clothing and dye options easier to access. So easy, in fact, that you’ll start out with a few chests filled with everything you need as soon as you start a new campaign. No more rummaging in chests for better clothes!
Quality-of-Life Mods That Make Everything Easier
Few things interrupt an adventure quite like discovering that your character can't carry another piece of equipment. Well, not anymore. Weightless Gold solves one small but persistent annoyance by removing the weight from the coins you're carrying. You'll still have to manage weapons, armor, and other supplies, but your growing fortune won't contribute to encumbrance.
Now, if you hoard items, Weightless Consumables lets you embrace that side of you even more. This mod removes weight from various consumable items, giving dedicated looters more room to work with. Don’t kid yourself—it's particularly handy during lengthy explorations when returning to camp feels unnecessary.
No matter what you do, just remember that before downloading everything, console mods must pass an approval process before appearing in the in-game browser. You'll also lose access to achievements and trophies while playing with mods enabled, even when those add-ons are purely cosmetic. Multiplayer participants need matching mods, and certain changes can cause compatibility problems with existing saves. With those precautions covered, there's plenty of room to customize your next journey through Faerûn.
