The Threats Gotham Never Planned For
We all know that Batman’s prepared for almost anything—almost anything. He may have put away the Joker or Two-Face a few times, but Marvel has plenty of villains the billionaire vigilante couldn’t hold a candle against. Let’s explore which rival schemers could give Batman a very long night.

1. Doctor Doom
Alright, let’s be honest: Doctor Doom would be one of Batman's most dangerous opponents. He combines scientific genius, political power, and serious ability all in one surprisingly vulnerable villain. The thing with Bruce is that he’s used to fighting masterminds, but Doom isn't just clever; he backs up every plan with his own resources and confidence.
2. Magneto
Boy, we hope Batman doesn’t have too much metal on his suit. (Spoiler alert: he does.) Even if he arrived with backup plans, Magneto's control over the battlefield could strip away tools and defensive options almost immediately. What makes him especially dangerous is that he's not only powerful, but he’s also disciplined and smart enough to exploit every opening.
3. Green Goblin
Green Goblin doesn’t seem like that hard a fight, but he’d give Batman a run for his money. Sure, Bruce could handle the gadgets and physical threat, but Osborn's unpredictability would make the fight harder than it first appears.
4. Loki
Loki’s nothing but mind games, and we all know how hard a punch Scarecrow throws. Now just multiply the illusions, manipulation, and magic—they’d leave Bruce to solve three different versions of the same problem. Even if Batman thought he had him cornered, Loki would still have a good chance of making that so-called certainty a miscalculation.
5. Mister Sinister
Well, it’s right there in the name, so we all know Batman would struggle! Mister Sinister brings a cold, methodical kind of horror that not even Bruce can dismiss. His genius with genetics, his talent for manipulation, and his willingness to create living weapons would make every clue feel like part of a larger problem.
6. Venom
Venom combines brute force with stalking instincts, and despite his slightly cartoonish appearance, that duo isn’t easily escaped. Unlike other large physical threats, Venom can also move fast, think tactically, and keep the pressure on in a way that gives Bruce very little breathing room.
7. The Purple Man
Don’t let the name fool you—a fight with The Purple Man could be over before it even started; Batman’s legendary discipline is no match for direct mind control. You wouldn't just get a struggle between hero and villain, either; the entire surrounding crowd could become part of the attack.
8. Mysterio
Goofy helmet aside, Mysterio’s not to be trifled with. He turns perception itself into a weapon, flooding the senses with illusions, staged threats, and carefully engineered deception. Batman could try to fight through it, but he'd question himself every step of the way, and that hesitation would give Mysterio exactly the opening he needs.
9. Nightmare
Oh, a nightmare, indeed. Batman has his work cut out for him here, battling fear, guilt, and psychological strain all in one. Remember: just because Batman’s spent his life mastering those forces doesn't make him immune when a supernatural enemy can weaponize them. Nightmare even looks like the Riddler, so it’s pretty much lights out.
10. Taskmaster
We hate to break it to you, Bruce, but you wouldn't be facing a random mercenary with good reflexes here. No, no, against Taskmaster, you’re duelling a fighter who can study movement and respond with unsettling efficiency. Bring all the martial arts you want; it probably won’t save you.
11. Thanos
Thanos is exactly the kind of threat Batman would take seriously, and for good reason. Maybe it’s the intelligence. It could be the raw power or cosmic advantages. Either way, Batman’s at his best when he can find weakness in arrogance, and Thanos has the strength to keep winning even against his pride.

12. The Hood
The Hood is deceptively hard to handle because he mixes familiar criminal ambition with supernatural support. At first, it’s easy to assume Batman might get the upper hand, but the mystical angle quickly turns that assumption into a liability. A villain who moves between mob tactics and dark power? Batman would have to rethink his whole strategy.
13. Carnage
Carnage would be one of Batman's worst-case scenarios. Why, you ask? Because there’s no restraint in how he operates. Bruce is used to dangerous supervillains, but Carnage brings a level of sadism and instability that makes standard containment feel fragile from the jump.
14. Mephisto
Mephisto thrives in moral pressure and supernatural manipulation. That’s right, he’s not the kind of devil who does straightforward confrontation, and since Batman usually looks for that angle, Mephisto would easily turn temptation, regret, and impossible choices into the real battlefield. Good luck throwing your little ninja stars against that.
15. Kingpin
What? You thought the guy in the white suit didn’t stand a chance? Guess again! Fisk isn't just a crime boss with money—he's a strategist who understands influence and how to hide power until he needs it. Alright, Bruce could probably take him in a direct contest of persistence, but Fisk wouldn’t make it easy.
16. The Controller
The Controller is the epitome of someone Batman would underestimate…and that’s exactly why he’d lose. Sandhurst dominates others through technology, turning civilians and allies into liabilities while collapsing an entire city. So, not only would Bruce have to stay mobile, but he’d also have to prevent panic all at the same time. It’s a tall order, even for him.
17. Annihilus
Relentless aggression. Massive power. Sheer force behind him. Basically, Annihilus would make every moment feel like a crisis. We’ll admit that Batman can be brilliant under pressure, but this little insectoid isn’t afraid to bring war to your doorstep.
18. Ultron
Ultron would be a nightmare for Batman! His whole thing is that he amplifies the dangers of AI and hostility. It’s one thing to understand a technical problem, but stopping constantly evolving machine intelligence is a completely different thing. The real danger is that Ultron doesn't get tired, doesn't get rattled, and doesn't need much time to get worse.
19. The Jackal
The Jackal brings every annoyance, thing you can think of: cloning, identity games, and obsessive experimentation. At the end of the day, Batman depends on evidence, but that process gets pretty messy when a villain purposefully manufactures confusion.
20. Galactus
With Galactus, the scale alone changes the confrontation. Batman often throws hands with threats larger than himself, but a world-devouring cosmic force? Yeah, that’s not the kind of enemy you outmaneuver with ordinary methods.
