Bad Intentions
Most Pokémon are lovable, loyal, or at least manageable when they’re treated with care, but some of them come with abilities that would be a nightmare in the wrong hands. While we’re thankfully not living in a terrifying world where our most beloved creatures are secretly sharpening knives, it is fun to think about which ones would cause the most damage if they ever decided to go rogue. With that, here are 20 nice guys we hope never flip sides.
1. Mewtwo
Mewtwo already has one of the most intimidating origin stories in Pokémon, since it was created through genetic engineering. So, let’s be real: it immediately showed that it didn’t enjoy being controlled. Its psychic power lets it throw opponents around, read minds, and overwhelm entire teams without much effort, and if Mewtwo ever went evil, it would do a lot more than win the odd battle.
2. Gengar
Gengar is creepy even when it’s being playful, especially since the Pokedex has repeatedly connected it to shadows, curses, and sudden chills. The thing is, those powers also allow it to disappear into darkness, sneak up on people, and use Hypnosis and Dream Eater to ensure even your sleep schedule is ruined. If Gengar ever went rogue, you wouldn’t know whether the shadow behind you was harmless or planning something awful.
3. Alakazam
Alakazam has such an adorable name that it’s hard to imagine it haunting our nightmares. And yet, being absurdly intelligent is really just its own threat. Imagine it using that intelligence for schemes and psychic manipulation instead of battle strategy. An evil Alakazam could outthink most trainers, predict their choices, and make sure no one got out alive.
4. Darkrai
Darkrai doesn’t need to punch through a wall to be scary—though that arguably makes it even scarier. Its role in The Rise of Darkrai showed how disruptive its power can be, even when it isn’t always trying to cause harm. If Darkrai ever decided to embrace evil, entire towns could be afraid to close their eyes.
5. Giratina
Giratina already lives in the Distortion World, which is exactly the place you don’t want a villain to control. It can move between dimensions. It can distort space and carry a dangerous presence before it even attacks. A corrupted Giratina could turn reality itself into hostile territory, and that’s not something anyone wants to see.
6. Yveltal
Yveltal’s lore is already tied to absorbing life energy. Take Pokémon X and Y, for example; Team Flare’s plans made it very clear that Yveltal’s power isn’t something anyone should casually mess with. So, if Yveltal ever chose destruction, its mere awakening could become a catastrophe.
7. Hypno
Hypno has always been a little unsettling, even if it’s upstaged by other choices. Not to us, though! We recognize its signature pendulum as being tied to hypnosis and control. Not to mention, the Pokedex entries about it luring people away have made it one of the franchise’s most quietly disturbing Psychic-types.
8. Malamar
Malamar might not look as legendary as some others, but that’s no reason to count it out. In reality, its mind-control abilities make it way more dangerous than you think. The anime even used Malamar in stories where it manipulated people and Pokémon, which is exactly the kind of villain behavior we’d never want to encounter.
9. Mimikyu
To be fair to Mimikyu, it’s more tragic than evil; it only hides under a costume because it wants affection. But don’t let it fool you! That emotional pain could become scary fast if it turned into resentment toward trainers and any Pokémon who reject it. Mimikyu would be small, unpredictable, and surprisingly hard to stop.
10. Hoopa
Hoopa’s portal powers are fun until you remember how easily they could be abused. If Hoopa went evil, it could drop threats anywhere it wanted. Arguably worse than that, it could also steal anything from anywhere and turn distance into a meaningless concept. Long story short, we wouldn’t want to see an evil playthrough.
11. Chandelure
Say what you want about it, but Chandelure’s lore gives it one of the creepiest reputations of any Ghost-type. Absorbing spirits and burning them with ghostly flames? Yeah, that’s a lot darker than its chandelier design suggests. A wicked Chandelure could turn a peaceful place into a spot no one would ever want to investigate.
12. Banette
Banette’s backstory makes it feel like a grudge brought to life, doesn’t it? It’s said to come from a discarded doll, and to be fair, that’s enough to creep us out from the jump. It also gives Banette a personal reason to lash out, especially at people who treat Pokémon or possessions carelessly. Imagine if it went evil! It wouldn’t need world-ending power—haunted revenge is bad enough.
13. Necrozma
Necrozma is tied to light itself, and though that sounds like a good thing, that kind of power affects far more than a single battle. In some adaptations, its story shows how dangerous things get when its hunger for light takes over. What does that mean for you? It means that if Necrozma became villainous, it could make every fight feel like a desperate survival mission.
14. Rotom
Rotom looks like a goofy little guy at first. It just loves jumping into appliances and causing chaos, so what’s the harm? Well, the problem is that modern life is packed with machines, and if Rotom went evil, you’d have to worry about every device around you becoming something to fear.

15. Froslass
Froslass has one of those Pokedex histories that feels like it wandered in from a ghost story. It’s connected to all kinds of spooky stuff: snowy mountains, frozen victims, and the idea of collecting things only it finds beautiful. A malicious Froslass could easily turn a winter wonderland into the final scenes of The Shining.
16. Deoxys
Deoxys is dangerous for a lot of reasons when you think about it. It’s alien, adaptable, and capable of changing forms. Its attacks can also hit brutally hard, while its defense lets it endure punishment that would stop many other Pokémon. If Deoxys went evil, trainers wouldn’t just be forced to deal with something that can adjust its entire approach mid-crisis.
17. Spiritomb
If you ever needed a reminder about why an evil Spiritomb would suck, here it is: it’s made from 108 spirits. It was bound to the Odd Keystone thanks to past misdeeds, so the franchise has never exactly pinned it as harmless. If Spiritomb broke loose, it would bring centuries of anger, trickery, and ghostly power with it.
18. Eternatus
Eternatus’s power is tied to the Darkest Day, one of Galar’s biggest disasters—not what you want to face in a fight. Its energy also caused Dynamax chaos across the region and pushed the story into full emergency mode. Naturally, if Eternatus went evil by choice, Galar would have way more than a strong Pokémon on its hands; the entire region could be thrown into panic.
19. Lugia
Lugia is usually portrayed as noble and protective, which is perfect on a good day! But we’re talking about a bad day, and those qualities are exactly why an evil version would be so alarming. If Lugia turned against people, everything from coastal cities, ships, and entire regions would have to worry about weaponized weather.
20. Arceus
Arceus sits at the top of Pokémon mythology, so an evil turn would be one of the worst things to deal with. It’s connected to the creation of the Pokémon world and has access to different types through its plates, making it unbelievably hard to counter. If the day ever came when Arceus decided that humanity or Pokémon had disappointed it, there might not be a backup plan big enough to matter.
