Hotel Maids Discuss The Worst (And Weirdest) Things They've Found In Rooms

Hotel Maids Discuss The Worst (And Weirdest) Things They've Found In Rooms

Could you handle dealing with bodily fluids and other forms of waste on a regular basis?  That's what hotel maids go through regularly as they deal with the worst waste that humanity has to offer. You've heard the hotel room horror stories in the news, but the following tales will disturb you even more.

1. Now That's A Party

Worked at a large hotel. Every year a group of old men rented the top two floors of the hotel for a few days. These were all retired judges, lawyers, business owners, etc. They would wear thousands of dollars of jewelry, bring in tons of their own beverages and other stuff.

Basically would have a huge party in every aspect. Would have to tell them to stay on their floors but would have old guys with no clothes be spotted in the elevator or on other floors freaking out other guests. They were big tippers and made for an interesting weekend each year.

2. Money See, Monkey Do

Obligatory not a hotel worker, but just a keen traveller wanting to break up some stories.

Stayed in a resort where it was a series of clay huts that comprised the hotel - this was in Namibia. You booked a hut, chill and go about your life.

When I arrived I found the door to my hut with scratches on the outside and several bolts. A sign saying "do not open at night". Strange.

I didn't sleep that night as I could hear a child wailing outside in pain and scrabbling at the door. Once I heard the door trying to be wrenched open.

Next morning I spoke to the other guests who had had a similar experience. Turns out that it was monkeys that mimicked human sounds to make people open the door and attack them. Stranger than fiction.

3. Owners On The Run

I don't work for a hotel but for a hotel reservations website - once got a call from a client who was staying in Thailand, asking to be relocated. When we asked why would he need that he told us the police was there because the property owner (it was a villa, not a hotel) had disposed of her husband and buried him under the villa. When he called us they were there with a excavator and a coroner's crew.

On top of that the villa owner ran away with the client's passports so they also required consular assistance.

4. A  Bad Situation

Worked in a gross restaurant that offered gross accommodation. A guest rightfully lost their mind after they climbed into bed and found a soiled pair of men's underwear. They fired the housekeeper after that.

5. Heck Of A Time

I used to work as a quality supervisor for a 5 star hotel. Basically my job was to make sure that both the staff and the guests have no ongoing issues.

One morning, I was around the reception area, guests were leaving in masses. I asked a few of them about their stay, took positive and negative feedback. Suddenly, one of the receptionist girls waved me over. A guest couple was checking out, I think they were Irish, age around 24-26, completely normal couple. The receptionist girl pulled me over and said that one of the cleaning crew notified them to send me up to the couple's room immediately. A bit puzzled, I go up to their room.

It was trashed.

Like COMPLETELY trashed.

Like if there were some blood splatters around, it could have seriously looked like a scene for a brutal case.

Among a hundred other things: Broken chair. Broken TV. Pillows and sheets all over the place. Curtains torn down. The bathtub was clogged with the bathrobes and the floor was completely drenched. The table seemed like some sort of makeup and other unknown things were used to paint all over it. A pack of wet Asian noodles were slammed on the ceiling. Things inside a lamp. And so on.

Completely in shock, I went down to immediately talk to the couple. I questioned them, but they acted like they don't know what I'm talking about. Called in the higher-ups, in the end, they were forced to pay a considerable amount of money for the damage they caused. The strangest thing was they were genuinely acting like they don't know what happened at all, not just trying to lie or make up a ridiculous story.

After they paid (still acting like they did nothing wrong) and left, I went on to investigate the issue a bit more. I ran into some of the other guests from the floor they stayed in, and asked them if they saw or heard anything strange. As it turned out, the couple acted like they were using something strange the night before the accident. Like something HEAVY. They stood in the hallway for 30 minutes, just staring at the wall, for example. They left claw marks on the inside of the door, which I didn't even notice at first. The staff did not get called because other people thought they were just moderately inebriated tourists.

To this day, I do not know what they took, but that room left a permanent mental image in my head.

6. A Sheet Show

A guy passed away by his own hand in the hotel room and the maids found him. It was a chain hotel which sent their laundry to the hotel I worked for and days later we received the bed sheets from said room. Obviously covered in blood and my boss just said: "It is just blood, we won't throw away sheets just because of a bit blood". Little did she know that I threw them away behind her back.

7. Feel Bad For The Dog

We were a small pet friendly hotel in a medium size NC town. There was a guest in town for a few months that was covering for someone at one of the local plants. This guy was traveling with his dog and generally seemed like a pretty alright guy, even if he was a recluse. This guy said we didn't need to go into his room for housekeeping since his dog wasn't the friendliest and he liked to do the cleaning himself. This isn't really an abnormal request and we never had trouble with people doing that in the past, so we were happy enough to save our girls a room on the housekeeping boards.

After two months, the guy checks out and we go into the room for the first time in that span; what we found was a smorgasbord of disgusting. Opening the door we were assailed by the overpowering stench of dog, okay, that happens sometimes. Taking the first step into the room our shoes are greeted with a squish and literal dog waste coming up over the top of our shoes. This was obviously worse than we thought it would be!

Exploring the room further, we found that the mattress and chair were completely soaked through with dog waste and growing literal mushrooms and mold. The wood on the tables and dressers was split and peeling, beyond any kind of salvage. The bathroom had number two stains on the floor and in the tub, but the tub also had a temporary bed of blankets and pillows set up in it. This dude was literally coming back to his room every day and sleeping in that mess, the only thing he bothered to clean up was the dog's number 2 (mostly). This was for TWO MONTHS.

We had to completely strip the room and rehab it because it was so bad. This also prompted us to create a policy where we had to enter every room at least once a week, no exceptions.

It amazes me that guy slept in there and supposedly went to work each day. I don't know how he managed to hold down a job if he lived like that.

8. The Grieving Guest

I used to work in a restaurant attached to a hotel and would be responsible for room service calls. There was the one older guy who was staying alone, visiting his wife in a hospital as she was dealing with a sudden and terminal cancer diagnosis. At first it was fine, he would just order dinner and a bottle every night. Then it became two bottles. Then three, spaced throughout the day.

His wife passed and then it became four. The hotel staff was starting to get worried, but he wasn't really breaking any rules. He would just stay in his room all day eating and drinking. Until one time I went to deliver his daily dinner (he didn't even call in orders anymore, he got the same thing every day) and he didn't answer the door. I thought I heard a cry from inside, like a pained groan or something, so I put the food down and went to tell the front desk. They said they'd handle it.

I later found out he tried to get out of bed and just collapsed. He had been there for hours and was laying in his own filth. They kicked him out after that, and ended his 3 month stay. I felt really bad for the man, he was going through heartbreak and was struggling to cope.

9. Plant Food

I've worked in a fair few of London's most famous hotels as a gardener and have some weird stories about people there.

I found a huge log of human waste inside an interior palm too, it was literally tucked into the crown of the plant like a vigilant guard. No idea why someone would feel the need to do that but hey people are weird.

10. Clean Up In Aisle Two

Obligatory not me, mother, ex-hotel manager: some guy went and then pulled some out the toilet and rubbed it on the wall. Known because the wet toilet paper used was all over the floor.

The cleaning staff weren't allowed to clean it, had to get specialists in...human waste removal.

11. Fish Or Foul?

Not from me but my sister works in the hotel biz and a colleague of hers told her about a time when a man checked in, and wouldn’t let anyone go into the room for over a week. They were all suspicious of what he must be doing as the corridor outside the room started to smell really bad. One day he went out, so the staff snuck in to see what was going on... I bet they wish they hadn’t. He had dead fish hung up all around the room. I’m not sure what happened but I’ve never heard anything like it...

12. The Classified Section

I was running room service up to a room one evening. They'd placed the order half an hour before and knew the wait time so normally people were half ready for the knock at the door.

Got to this woman's room and all I can hear is giggling and whispering. Eventually she opens the door a crack and I tell her that her food's arrived. She shut the door again and more giggling, then opens it slightly wider. I tell her I need to come in to put the tray down and for her to sign for the food and same again, giggling, door closed, she then opens it wearing a towel.

Get in the room, she signs and that's when I see it.

A man in a chair in the corner, casually covering himself with a single page from a news paper.

Like this guy had over 2 minutes to change / hide / cover up and instead just opted for the front page of The Times.

13. When You Gotta Go

I work front desk at a hotel. I wasn't there for this but heard it through a coworker. An older man about 40s or 50s apparently needed to use the bathrooms very badly and didn't have time to make it back to his room or even to the lobby bathroom. So what does he do? He finds the nearest housekeeping closet that's open then proceeds to squat and go in a random bucket. The worst part? One of the housekeepers was in the closet getting linens.

14. Nudity In The Elevator

Had a guy wander into our employees' only kitchen without any clothing on. I sent him back to his room. He gets on the elevator and I think that's the end of it until I have to use the elevator a minute or two later. He's just standing there, so at that point I call the police to help sort it out.

15. Ice Ice Baby

I worked at a hotel that had ice machines on each floor. Our ice machines were not the type where you push a button to release the ice. Instead, you opened up the bin and scooped the ice out. Every month or so, maintenance would remove all the ice and thoroughly clean the bins. One month, we found used contraceptive in the bin.

16. The Midas Touch

After High School I worked in a hotel on Miami Beach. I was young, fresh out of high school. I was a bellhop in the hotel down there. One day we got a call to move a guest out of his room. I went up to the room, knocked on the door and when I opened it, the guest has spray painted the entire room gold. He said it was 24 karat gold because he stayed in hotels in Saudi Arabia that were solid gold. So he wanted to make his room look like that. He spray painted the bed sheets, light bulbs, bathroom, everything in that room was gold. They moved him into a hotel down the beach and didn't tell them.

17. Rubbers Everywhere

Not a hotel worker - but I was staying in a central London budget hotel one Sunday evening whilst working away.

The poor receptionist was extremely busy dealing with complaints as I was waiting to check in, felt sorry for the poor guy.

I got my key and headed up to the room after a busy day travelling/working. Got to my room to find something wasn't quite right.

The bed wasn't made, I was like, OK, no problem, I will make it. Turned the light on to find used and dirty things EVERYWHERE. All used, in the bed, on the floor, in the sink, toilet, kettle.

I went back downstairs and explained the deal to the poor stressed receptionist. Got a new room.

18. Baby Blues

In our Carvary dinner room (Sunday roast dinner restaurant set up).

Woman changed her baby’s dirty nappy on the white tablecloth and LEFT IT THERE for me to clean up.

Then complained that I didn’t clear her dinner dishes promptly enough for dessert.

I went on break and got the heck outta there.

19. Down the Drain

I worked in a hotel for about 2 years and saw so many disturbing and odd things.

One of the worst, a man was staying in a room by himself during the week on business. He was well dressed, very polite, typical businessman. He checked out and the housekeepers went to work. Nothing unusual from the room until she got to the shower.

She sprayed and wiped it down and turned on the shower to get the excess cleaning solution. Then she noticed it wasn’t draining. Our tubs all had the stoppers that you push to close, push to open. She pushed it to see if it was just closed, pushed it back up to open and up came excrement.

She continually had to push the stopper up and back, getting little bits of human waste here and there and then got the handyman to take the stopper completely out. It took hours to clean the pipes of all of the number two the man shoved down the drain.

It was disgusting, but also impressive that he did such a good job getting it all into the drain that she didn’t notice until the tub wouldn’t drain.

20. That Time Of The Month

When I was in university back in 2010 it was a bit harder to get a job so I ended up working as a housekeeper at a chain hotel for a couple of months.

Anyway, it's about mid morning and I'm cleaning away when one of the lads I worked with knocked on the door and said he had a question for me. When I asked what's up he said he couldn't explain - he was Indian but spoke really good English so I was a bit confused. He told me to follow him to the room he was cleaning so he could show me.

I walked into the room he'd been in and there was a really weird smell. Then I noticed it..... used absorbable things for that time of the month everywhere. I mean everywhere. Stuck to the ceiling, the walls, the TV, all over the floor. I noped the heck out of there and told him to ring the managers, we didn't get paid enough to deal with that.

21. Naked In The Snow

Current Night Auditor, I was working at a hotel in Montana during the winter a few years back. Had a pretty bad blizzard one night (-30s in temp) and I found footprints in the snow outside during a walk. They led me to a man without clothing who had busted into our housekeeping room. I quickly contacted police who happened to be around the block.

Found out the next day that he had broken into someone's garage and been uh.. enjoying some choice magazines before the owner of the house's garage caught him and chased him out where he ran to the hotel.

22. Rod Stewart Ruins Everything

I heard this one in a podcast once and it’s my favorite story. A guy called a travel agency wanting a refund because this happened.

He was getting intimate with his girlfriend and wanted to try something new. He puts a Rod Stewart’s song on his phone on replay. Then he ties up the girlfriend, he then changes into a Spider-Man costume. He then stands on the counter and falls off and breaks his leg and is immobile in the corner. So now the guy can’t get up, the girl can’t get up, and Rod Stewarts is playing on repeat for like an hour.

Funniest story I ever heard.

23. Wine Always Wins

I’m not a hotel worker but this is relevant I promise.. Am a police officer and got a call to a hotel where a woman wouldn’t leave her room after checkout. Got staff to unlock the door and the woman was sitting on the bed and had relieved herself everywhere... it was even on the ceiling. There were skid marks of it on the floor where she’d slipped in it. There were about 5 empty bottles so I guess she’d consumed so much her bowels just said “forget this I’m done”.

As I opened the door she slowly slid sideways, landing her face on the pillow... also covered in you guessed it, more.

So that was special.

24. Not Microwave Safe

Not a hotel worker, but a hotel story...

Guy I knew was a BMX stunt rider and would travel with his buddies to different parts of the country to ride. One guy in the crew was obsessed with number two's. He would take a dump in a Pringles can and walk around offering to people who thought nothing of it until they pulled their fingers out covered in his waste.

As the story goes, he comes out of the hotel bathroom with a plate of it. Says he'll be right back. Comes back to the room without the plate and tells everyone he's ready to go. The group figured he left it in front of someone's room or on the concierge counter... whatever it was, they go on riding. They come back hours later to a lobby full of people, complaining and yelling at the staff. The stench hits them the minute they walk in. Turns out he put the plate in the microwave used by the guests for a few HOURS! The staff brought in fans and air fresheners to rid the smell as best as they could.

25. Chasing A Rat

I worked at a larger hotel/event space. Someone accidentally let loose a lab rat in one of the rooms. The guest at least had the courtesy to call down to the front desk and let us know that they needed help catching the weasel. Maintenance and the guest, after looking for hours, could not find the rat and eventually gave up. We had multiple call downs to the front desk over the next few weeks from terrified guests who spotted our naked tailed friend. I don’t know if they ever caught that giant rat. This is one of many absurd stories that came out of that place.

26. A Gruesome Discovery

I was about a year into my job at a downtown hotel that was known for its “craziness” to say the least. It was nuts. It actually was so known for everything that went wrong there that media crews often stayed in the area and they were ALWAYS the first to respond to an incident.. over medics/police etc.

Well one day while working it was realized a customer hadn’t checked out. This hotel sent the front desk staff to investigate rooms when people didn’t check out on time which I absolutely dreaded because clearly the best citizens stay here. I “rock paper scissors” the newer employee (probably a week old) for who was going to do a room check on why this person hadn’t checked out..

Anyways, long story short- when the employee walked in, a 50 year old man was no longer alive and with us. The new employee quit on the spot.

27. A Family Affair

Once worked at a hotel. Family came to stay in the place for ages. Must have been there for months. Turned out their home was under reconstruction due to flooding or something.

Kept hearing rumours about how bad the room looked. When the family finally left the room had thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The room needed new wallpaper, new carpet, new beds/bedding. The bathroom needed to be fumigated as mushrooms had managed to grow all around the toilet and bath itself. There was stains EVERYWHERE. Like, Charlie Sheen level of stains.

Don't know what happened to the family after they were evicted from the hotel... Just hope they cleaned up their act.

28. Offering A Hand

So I was working with a coworker on the desk who is a very close friend and a car pulls up and a woman gets out and immediately falls to the ground. We go outside to help and this woman is a mess. She's old as dirt and smells like a garbage can. We grab her a wheelchair and bring her into the building. She came in a cab and the driver drove off leaving her there. We do the normal check in process asking for an ID and credit card and she has neither. Typically we don't check you in without these things but this woman wasn't all there and had no where else to go so we check her in with just cash. She needs help to the room so we wheel her down there. Get her in the room and she needs help in the bed. This is the gross part. She puts her hand on my coworker's arm and she must have had severe frostbite or something on her hands because they were black and she was missing parts of her fingers and it basically looked like decayed flesh and she really held on when getting in the bed and went out of her way to shake his hand and touch him as much as possible. It was very hard to not laugh but I kept a straight face the whole time. He washed his arms and hands after that.

29. Putrid Pizza

So a few years ago I worked at a Hilton. Because of the name I thought things like this would happen. Now I lol. I was back after a few days off and doing my nightly floor check. I smelled something awful in one of the stairways. Opened the door to one of the fire dept. water valves to find someone had stuck a frozen pizza (in the box thankfully) and left it there to rot. Probably some teenager who thought it would be funny.

30. Abuse Of Amenities

We have washers and dryers for our guests to use. A few months ago someone washed a load that uhh, also had a load in it if you catch my drift. They must have realized their error, since they also got excrement all over the floor... They put it all into the dryer anyway.

6-1541382073473.jpgRawpixel

31. Mammary Money

I worked in a super high end hotel resort where we transported people around the property in golf carts. There were plenty of incidents but the worst was when I had to transport a client from the spa back to her room. Now the spa was literally next door to this woman's room, however she still wanted a ride in the cart. I parked in front of her room and walked to the door about 15 feet away to open her door. When I turned around her robe was wide open. Now with some of our clients I would not have complained, however she was probably 80 years old and close to 400 pounds. She walked by me, grabbed a $5 from who knows where and handed it to me as a tip. It was not a pleasant experience.

33. Diaper Duty

There was a man who was staying long term in a mid scale hotel. Each week he would come out and pay for the next week in cash. Finally he started not coming out so employees had to chase him down but at the door he would shove them cash for another week. After a few more weeks of this he wouldn't answer the door and there was a deathly smell that started building (he would turn down room service daily). Hotel management eventually said ok time to "evict him." When they opened the door they froze in shock as this man ran past them in a diaper and left the building. When they searched his room it was full of dirty adult diapers, take out food containers. The hotel called the cops since it was a crime scene at that point and a special machine had to be used to re-purify the room and get rid of the stench.

34. A Bowl Of Nails

Friend used to work at one of the big hotels in Stockholm as a cleaner. He was just about to finish cleaning the room, only had the bathroom left, and then looked into the shower and saw a bowl of human nails. Just a bowl of toenails and fingernails. Like not even just the top part, but whole nails, some even with some of the part that connects them with the skin left. He called management but they didn‘t mind it and just threw it away. I wish I knew what they were used for.

35. Broke When They Got There

I work the night shift. Got a call from one of our guests saying that the toilet was leaking water. So I went up to their floor and was greeted with water in the corridor outside their room. Knocked on their door and when they opened I saw that there was water in the whole room. The man showed me the toilet, which was basically broken in half, and said that it was like that when they checked in.... As I tried to shut of the water his wife came in, without clothes, and proceeded to be sick all over me. Not my best night I might add.

36. A Scene To Remember

I work at a hotel but not as a maid myself. Though one day a maid found a woman who had taken her own life. She checked in so her family would not be forced to find the body. It was in the middle of the day and the hotel was mostly clear of people. Nobody heard a sound and we have concrete floors that stopped the bullet from traveling out of the room. The way it was described to me was it was relatively clean. She was on the bed, put a pillow on her head, and shot through it towards the ground. It wasn’t until the cops came that it got messy. The maid soon quit afterward.

37. An Unexpected Jackpot

My grandfather used to work maintenance in Manhattan. One day the cleaning lady calls him because she can't open the door to a room. They find a body on the floor. After calling the cops, they discovered suitcase with two million dollars in it.

38. Searching For A Light Snack In The Fridge

I was a housekeeper on an island resort, and we had contractors living there during the week building a new high-rise. They would go home for the weekend, and we had to clean everything. They were getting free accommodation and did not care. They were always messy. Week old plates of food, spilt water etc. But the most confusing moment was in the bottom of a fridge. There was a layer of sand a couple of centimeters thick and rock hard. I proceed to chip away at the sand biscuit and as I do so, I start to see small curly hairs appearing. Loads of them. To this day I still don't know how so many of them got into the sand, in the bottom of a mini fridge, and what had acted as the binding agent.

39. Not The Popsicle I Had In Mind

My grandma used to clean hotel rooms and I used to go with her because it’s a laid-back job and nobody else could watch me. My grandma was cleaning, and I was sitting on the counter playing my DS. I wanted to get a drink so checked to see if there was ice in the freezer. There was no ice, but there was a popsicle box! I got so excited. I ran into the bathroom and asked my grandmother if I could have a popsicle. Assuming they were in plastic wrap, she said yes. I ran back to the freezer and reached into the cardboard box and pulled out a long, purple adult toy covered in poop. I was 7.

40. Room Of Horrors

Ex-hotel housekeeper here who is ready to tell the story of why I quit. It was a regular day with a slightly smaller than the average schedule of rooms for the day so I was in a good mood. I had 12 rooms that day. Normally I'd have 14 - 16.

I get to my last room, excited to be close to finishing for the day and I open the door only to be greeted by a grotesque display of everything that is considered repulsive and dangerous to touch. There were... let’s see if I remember this right: used rubber, too much blood for there to have not been a crime, needles, pipes, other random substance things, empty medication bottles, broken and unbroken drink bottles, and cigarettes. Then the bathroom: pee and throw up everywhere. I called the front desk and asked them to call the police. The cops came to investigate the mess and substances used in the room but the people who had rented it and already checked out. They wanted me to clean the room and forego a hazmat team. I left for the day and later quit.

41. Seeing Child Neglect Firsthand

My mom was a hotel maid, and I worked with her during the summers. I remember one day she was done early with her rooms, so she came to help me finish so we could go home. We walked into the room and were automatically hit with the stench of poo and throw up. The people staying there were a family of four in a suite and were put up because their apartment had flooded or something. They had refused cleaning for the last week and now we knew why. The bathtub was filled with garbage, one of the walls was smeared with poop.

Their two-year-old kid had apparently smeared his own poop unto the wall, and they just left it to dry up. There was a corner with a mountain of diapers. The older kid had gotten sick (probably from living in that filth) had thrown up everywhere. My mom and I refused to clean the room, and we asked the manager to come and see. It was so disgusting the family got kicked out of the hotel, and we had to call a cleaning company to get the dry poop out of the wall. Child protective services also came and asked us questions.

42. Caught In A Real Crime Reveal

One time I found a bunch of newspaper clippings on a crime that had happened in Belgium. Later, there was a news segment that this criminal was thought to be in Amsterdam, and a photo of the man was put up. It was the same man who had stayed at my work. We phoned the police, but he had checked out by then.

43. False Alarm Of A Lifetime

We had a lady who cleaned hotels tell us about the time she walked in and there were 10 heads in the bathtub with the hotel water running. She immediately left the room and had the manager call the police. Tons of police come to investigate with multiple guys with earpieces in place. The gentlemen who was in the room came back and was immediately taken down. He oversaw an ENT cadaver lab being held the next AM and needed to thaw the specimens. Tough to explain but it got sorted out once the heads were all accounted for.

44. A Thank You Present For The Staff

I used to work part-time as one (I'm a man, so not exactly a maid). Once, I found a sticky, yellow adult toy with a smell that will suffocate your soul and scar you for life. It was shaped like a deformed Neptune's trident. It was stuck under the mattress.

45. A Grudge Rears Its Ugly Head

I worked as a housekeeper in a hotel for a few months when I was 18. The absolute worst thing I've had to deal with was when I kept turning down the offers of intimacy to the room of 2 military men. They got super offended that I wasn't interested and went so far to trash the room. They took boxes of chips and crushed them all over the floor. There were so many bits of chips smashed into the carpet. There were also beverage cans thrown everywhere and trash stuffed between the mattresses. Also, I saw rolls of toilet paper shoved in the toilet and poop on the walls.

46. Coffee Anyone?

When I was 16, I worked for a hotel in southern Illinois. I walked into the room and instantly smelled poop, but nothing looked nasty, so I went about stripping the beds and going about my business. I was nearly done with the room and still confused about the odor until I got to the coffee pot. Someone had done their business where the coffee grounds were supposed to go and made a pot of hot poop water. I just bagged and threw the whole thing away in the dumpster. I went to the owner and told them what had happened and to request a new pot. I was told to retrieve the old one and just bleach it. I quit right then and there. I still refuse to use coffee pots when I am staying at a hotel.

47. Guess What’s For Dinner?

A single guy rented a room once for one night (checked in at 11 pm and checked out real early the next morning). Went to clean his room and nothing was touched at all. The bed was still made even. Except, there was an ax underneath the pillows.

Someone called because their toilet was clogged. Well, we went in and the toilet was indeed clogged. Except, it was clogged with an entire rotisserie chicken and poop. And the shower was also clogged with poo. Not fun to clean up.

48. Cover Your Eyes, Jesus

I once walked into a room that was littered with dirty clothes and old food. There were stems from rotten grapes scattered on the bed and bread that was so old it almost disintegrated at the touch. Sitting on the bed was a laptop, open but turned off, a bottle of lotion and a roll of toilet paper. It was all seemingly normal for a 20-year-old-boy. Next to the bed was a black chair full of white spots on the seat. Sitting next to the chair, scattered about and obviously used, was a pump for "down under". Then on the dresser was a small Jesus statue turned away towards the window.

49. A Wedding Night to Remember

I worked for a nice hotel that was often used for wedding and honeymoons. I had already cleaned the bridesmaids and groomsmen rooms of their throw up and trash and next on my list was the couple’s room. I walked into the room to find throw up and other "juices" in the mini fridge. The sheets had been removed from the bed because the couple didn't want to sleep on dirty sheets. But they still got intimate on the bare bed, with some candle play involved. The other table had Chinese food stuck to the table with hardened soy sauce. I left right away and told my manager it was a hazardous room, and she said I would be fired if I didn't clean it. I'm so glad I no longer work there.

50. This Is Not Your Grandmother’s Chocolate Shake

I’m not a maid, but my sister used to be. I think the worst story she has told me was when she just started working there. Three guys stayed in one room for four days, and it was nothing unusual. The room was cleaned daily. My sister entered the room, and there was a gross smell of human poop. In the middle of the bed there were probably 20 paper bags filled with liquid poo. No clue why they did it or how they even got all that poop in the bags.

51. A Grisly End

A friend of mine was a hotel manager at an extended stay chain of hotels. One day their maid walked into a room to see the scene of a crime of a local and prominent couple. Nobody heard the weapons discharge but that was the method of death. This was higher profile given they were famous in our city. It should be noted that it was a planned crime due to medical issues. Husband and wife.

52. Pee Or Something Else?

I used to be a housekeeper at a hotel that housed gymnastics folks for various reasons. In one room, I would constantly have to leave the guest notes on the toilet because it was the sort that you had to hold the handle down to fully flush, and I was tired of lifting the seat to clean the toilet only to find this horrid yellow soup. Is it the weirdest? No, but at the time I felt it was terrible how they would peddle eating right to kids they instructed while secretly maintaining an eating disorder.

slide-17-1541292750089.jpgFlickr

53. Someone’s Watching You

I once found a pen camera that had several clips of women using the bathroom. The last clip was a clip depicting a man (likely the owner of the device) and a woman getting intimate. After 2 or 3 minutes (not joking), they finished, and she got up and discovered the pen. She began yelling at him about it, but he kept telling her it wasn't a camera.

54. You Don’t Want To Know What’s In There

My friend signed up for a job as a maid for the summer. In one room he found a drawer of used rubbers, three adult toys that had blood on them, and the smell was indescribable. He then left his stuff at the room, went to the manager, and quit.

slide-15-1541293255136.jpgFlickr

55. The Life Of An Addict

I opened a messy room to find a smell that hit me was almost a physical mass. I had never felt queasy from foul odors, but I wanted to throw up. I'm not sure what exactly happened. There was a trash can in the middle of the room that contained dirty toilet paper and a pipe. The toilet was also full of what appeared to be poo. The bottom of the shower was also full of dirt, with a brown-stained towel. I kept every half-cleaned room shut after that incident.

56. Human Molting?

I walked into a room that an old couple had been staying in. The floors were hardwood, and it looked like a box of soap flakes or talcum powder had been dropped on the floor. The floor was absolutely covered in them. It was only when I got down on my knees that I realized it was skin.

57. I Hope That’s Beard Hair

I was a new housekeeper at a little hotel in South Dakota. After entering a suite, I found trash everywhere. A lamp was knocked down, and the nice tub was covered in dirty water. There were also dirty footprints all over the place, but the worst was the hair all over the bathroom.

slide-12-1541294072826.jpgFlickr

58. Think Of This When Lying On A Hotel Bed

One day my boss asked me to look at something in one of the rooms so obviously I was like sure thing and went to have a nosey. There was a HUGE wet patch and a stain that had gone through to the mattress (double mattress and it covered nearly half of the bottom of it). The duvet was also slightly damp. Some sort of liquid had been knocked over, or one of the ladies had peed herself. Either way my boss had to ring them to ask why the bed was left in such a state. The lady and her girlfriend came back and casually explained that she had an "experience" all over the bed. I touched it to see how wet it was.

59. The Bondage Of Addiction

I found a deceased person. He had abused substances, and he had the do-not-disturb sign on the door for a few days. He was in the room at the end of the hall and guests were complaining of a horrible smell, so my manager sent me to check. I knocked a few times and then went to open the door, but the smell was overwhelming, and I had a horrible feeling, so I didn't open it all the way and ran to get my boss. I still had to work for the rest of the day. After the cleaning crew came, they rented the room out that night. I quit shortly after.

60. It Began With An Innocent Jewelry Box…

I remember one disgusting story from when my mom was a maid in one of the hotels on the Las Vegas strip. She had gotten to an older guy’s room and knocked to see if he was there. He opened the door. Seemed nice enough as my mom said sorry and that she'd come back later. The guy looked at her and said "Oh, I was just leaving. Left a nice tip for you too." The room was covered in poop, but they had her clean it anyway. She found the “tip” on the dresser. It's a cheap wooden jewelry box with a note on the top that says: "for the maid." She opens it to find a poop-covered $20 crumpled into a ball. When they confronted the old man, he said his colostomy bag broke. For some reason, the staff was cool with that excuse and let him go.

61. A Great Way To Start The New Year

I cleaned a room on New Year’s. There was throw up all over the bed and pillows.  The guest put a pillow on the throw up and didn't let the maids in until leaving that day. The throw up was stuck together. There was also throw up in the bathroom, and poop-ridden toilet paper in the trash bins.

slide-9-1541295237331.jpgFlickr

62. Staring Death In The Face

I saw a deceased man slumped over the bed with an apparent cut to the head. He had a heart attack and fell on the corner of the dresser, landing on the bed. It was scary and sad all at the same time.

slide-7-1541295458284.jpgFlickr

63. Someone Had A Great Party

In the bathrooms of the smoking rooms, there were big ashtrays and the housekeepers were taught as part of the routine of the room to dump them into the toilet and flush. One woman was cleaning and found substances after dumping an ashtray. She freaked out and instead of flushing called a manager. This was literally thousands of dollars of value dissolving in toilet water. The manager flushed it, and nothing came of it.

slide-6-1541295661502.jpgFlickr

64. This Isn’t My Scene

My friend used to work at a hotel and told me about things their housekeepers find. One time he called me up because he feared what they found. It was a mural of the anarchy symbol that was painted in red on the wall. There were candles everywhere and a goat corpse on one of the beds. On the other bed was a Bible with symbols written in blood around it.

65. A Dark Path

A kid I went to high school with was arrested after housekeepers found the remains of several dogs in his motel room. He apparently got into substances and began collecting dogs to attack them. I think he's been sentenced to over 30 years in prison. I could barely recognize his mugshot. He was a popular kid from a wealthy family before getting mixed up.

66. Enter the World Of A Hoarder

We had an extended stay guest who said he wanted to clean his own room and change his own sheets. We would stop by and drop off clean towels, sheets, and trash bags. He would tell us he would bring the dirty sheets down to the desk later. He got behind on his bill, and the manager wanted us to go in the room if he didn't answer to see if he was still staying with us. This guy was a hoarder and had trash everywhere. There was rotten food, a watermelon that was practically flat and oozing nasty liquids, and lots of chicken bones. He also had brought back four stools from different bars across the street. He never brought down dirty sheets because he would just keep putting them on top of each other. We also found a couple of his teeth. The bathroom smelled horrible. We had to kick him out and replace the carpet and mattresses. The room was empty for months because of the smell.

67. The Man With The Eerie Smile

I was 17 at the time and working as a hotel receptionist/maid. In one room, I saw blood everywhere. It looked like someone had been attacked, and I'm not saying this lightly. Blood covered the bathroom walls, floors, and entire shower. The first maid who got in there fainted when she saw it, so the receptionist sent me to check on her and the room's status. It was terrifying.

We obviously stopped the guest as he came back from his business meeting to ask him about the mess, upon which he smiled creepily and said: "I had a woman over. You know how they get sometimes, Heh, heh, heh."

I really wish I was making this up. I really, really do. We were a small hotel with just over 40 rooms and called the cops on the dude, which was terrible for our reputation. Quit shortly after, never found out what happened afterward.

68. Creepy Old Man Alert

For my first job as a teenager, I was a hotel maid. I've seen a lot of weird stuff, but one situation that stood out was this creepy old man who would hit on me and my friend. Every time we would clean his room, the top drawer of his dresser would be open with what seemed to be a strategically-placed unused rubber. I guess he never got to use it.

slide-34-1541289391762.jpgPixabay

69. Time To Change Jobs

We had to clean a room covered in poop. On the bed, on the towels, and everywhere but the toilet. And to top it all off, when I asked about being able to use gloves, I was told no. We had to make do with what we had. I hated that place.

70. What’s Up With Creepy Old Men And Hotels?

I saw a naked man in the bathtub. I was 16, knocked and called loudly before I walked in. He sat there with a big creepy grin on his face. Gross.

71. Swimming In Red

Not a housekeeper, but a former hotel employee, here. I once had to drain a bathtub full of blood after someone tried to take their own life, because the housekeepers couldn't stomach it!

On a lighter note, I once discovered a used earplug under my bed while staying as a guest in a motel. Fairly innocuous on its own, but my buddy and I sure had a laugh when we realized why it was there: for a tiny motel air-conditioner, that sucker sure roared to life like a jet engine!

75. Nowhere To Go

Worked in a hotel and one day a maid walked into a room and found a man spreadeagled and handcuffed to the 4 bed posts. The worker he hired had robbed him and left him chained to the bed.

76. Crime Scene

I used to work construction on Motel 6. Basically doing new paint, carpet, and fixtures.

One room had previously had a crime in it and the carpet was blackish orange. Have found dozens of needles and razor blades hidden inside bathroom items; towel rack bar, shower bar, under the toilet lid, air conditioning units, the list goes on.

77. Mountain of Sugar

I feel mine are more weird/gross than disturbing.

  • Used rubbers
  • Trash can full of spit
  • A huge pile of sugar (well, I hope it was sugar) on the floor

78. Poo Bag

My mom used to clean student housing during the summer before the new people would move in in the next semester. She once found a carrier bag filled with poo shoved behind a radiator.

79. Not The Smartest Smuggler

Preliminary, not me, my girlfriend's mom works at a Hilton and after one guest had left, a maid went up to the room, looked under the sink for anything left over, found a huge duffel bag stuffed with bricks, upon bricks of substances. Guest later called and asked to be let back into his room because he forgot something, police were waiting for him on his return.

80. My Bad

Poo all over the room. Literal poo. Lucky for me, I wasn't the maid. I was the child who pooed on the bed and had it fall out of my little whitey tighties as I hobbled to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, my brother who shared my bed was hardly spared from my surprise. My parents (in the other bed in the same room) did their best to help clean up but there was just... Too much. That's when we learned that Dramamine gives me a bad stomach. We got out of there first thing in the morning and never looked back. I feel so sorry to this day for the maid that likely had to torch that room to the ground.

81. For Safe Keeping

Someone locked a full diaper into the safe once. I was expecting to open it up and find some cash or something. Nope, a full diaper.

82. Creepy Crawlers

We found bed bugs in our hotel room this morning. At first, it was just one, then we checked under the bed. I don't think I will be able to sleep again.

83. Scat Adult Films

At Banff international Hotel, Room I was cleaning had underwear (tightie whities) covered in poop in the bathtub! When I took the bed covers off that is when I noticed the bedsheets were covered in poo too. A camera on a tripod was in corner of the suite. The room was a "stay" meaning they were still there for another few days.... I had to look at this weird German couple for days after and they knew I knew about their messy rocky roads party.

84. New Furnishing

I asked the maintenance man what was the most messed up thing he had seen. (I was there to work on the TVs. ) He said this guy checked in with cash. When the maid came around to clean the room, she called him to the room. Asked what was wrong with it. Apparently, the guy needed to stock his house. Had taken bed, dresser, tv. the works. And since he paid with cash, no record. I think they started asking for id after that.

85. Fudge Hallucinations

An old boss of mine was staying in a hotel and had a package of fudges that had been laced with a substance that he and his buddies were planning on taking. One of the maids helped herself to the package.

I can only imagine what she must have gone through later that day, but I assume she learned her lesson by the end.
