One of the biggest joys of the Sims franchise is playing god in your sims' lives. Even the most morally upright players may be tempted to use the motherlode cheat to give their Sims a financial leg up. Other players may make it their mission to break up as many couples as possible.
Modding In The Sims
While the latest iteration of The Sims is bigger and better than ever, with frequent updates and expansions, some players take game development into their own hands.
The Sims fandom is known for a large modding community. Modding can range from custom outfits and hairstyles to fanmade DLCs, the vast majority of them free for download. Among this community, one of the best-known developers is Sacrificial.
Sacrificial, as their name may suggest, is known for their dark and dramatic storylines. The Life Tragedies Mod pushes Sims to their emotional limit, while Zombie Apocalypse focuses on survival. However, not all of Sacrificial's mods are gruesome; Road to Fame refines the Get Famous DLC by adding further depth to celebrity storylines.
That said, we're here for the darkest of dark: the Extreme Violence mod.
Take Things To The Extreme
If you're the sort of Sims 4 player who has the grim reaper on speed dial, you probably already know about the Extreme Violence mod. If you don't, then buckle up, because you're in for a wild and gristly ride. The Extreme Violence mod is more Grand Theft Auto than Animal Crossing.
There are already a ton of ways players can send their Sims to the pixelated pearly gates. Trapping your Sims in a pool without a ladder is a classic, as is a kitchen fire, or an ill-timed WooHoo. Some players even summon the Grim Repear with hopes of starting a romance.
The Extreme Violence mod kicks kicks things up a notch.
For starters, the mod amps up the base game's combat system to 11. Fistfights can turn brutal, Sims arm themselves for a walk around the block, and a vicious turf war threatens the delicate balance of the neighborhood. In this mod, reputation is everything—the more fearsome the better.
One of the most interesting things about this mod is the way it integrates emotional regulation. Your Sim can calm themself down during negative moodlets or fly into a berserker rage that protects them from damage. The reputation mechanic is surprisingly introspective for a mod that's all about going on a rampage.
What's Included?
In terms of non-lethal interactions, you can pickpocket Sims if you're short on simoleons, or hack their personal info for nefarious purposes. You can even make crime your career path—just remember to watch out for the police (don't worry, there's a 'Prison Break' moodlet if your Sim gets thrown in the big house).
And, if you want to sit back and watch the world burn, you can enable free will and watch as Sims descend into total anarchy. Just be careful not to send too many Sims swimming with the fishes, otherwise the Grim Reaper may just appear to dish out a healthy serving of karma!
As with all mods which essentially rewrite base gameplay, this mod can be tricky to install for players new to the modding community. Additionally, while Sacrificial is pretty good at updating their mods, major patches to the base game will break gameplay. Due to the nature of this mod, it isn't recommended for sensitive or younger players, or those who share their account with them.
